Seven-star Energy Efficient Targets for New Homes

Seven-star energy efficient targets for new homes welcomed by SIPs Industries

Homes built using Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) already hitting new energy efficiency targets.

The Western Australian-based manufacturer of an environmentally sustainable building product has welcomed plans to introduce seven-star energy ratings for all newly built homes in the State.

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) Industries director Rob Vis said the company’s lightweight building product delivered energy efficiency through its air-tight, insulated properties, significantly reducing energy costs.

“SIPs has been delivering energy efficient homes for people in WA and Australia for more than a decade,” Mr Vis said. “Our innovative product is sourced from renewable plantations and all by-products of the manufacturing process can be reused and recycled. SIPs is one of the most environmentally responsible building products on the market.

“We have designed new homes with energy ratings as high as nine-and-a-half.”

It was revealed this week that the WA Government has agreed to changes to the National Building Code, requiring all newly constructed homes to adhere to a seven-star energy rating. While all other States and Territories agreed to a 21 May 2023 start date for the new code, WA has yet to confirm a time frame for the change.

Mr Vis said more people were choosing to build environmentally sustainable homes as the awareness of their long-term cost benefits increased. “Houses that are cool in summer and warm in winter will reduce your power bill. It is that simple.”

He said using SIPs had the added advantage of being faster and more efficient than traditional building methods. With the product manufactured in WA, there were no product delays or shortages.

“Keys to a SIPs home can be handed over within six weeks from the start of construction. That is how efficient building with SIPs is.”

SIPs floor, roof and wall panels are highly and continuously insulated panels comprising two outer engineered timber panels and a polystyrene foam insulated core, which is non-toxic and fire retardant. The panels are exceptionally strong, lightweight and air-tight. SIPs can be purchased pre-cut or designed to measure. For more information click here.
