A 4,500m² rehabilitation facility in South Hedland erected in 45 days and undamaged by Cyclone Rusty during construction.

Yaandina Community Services required a permanent drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility in South Hedland to support Indigenous health outcomes across the Pilbara region. The project demanded a building system capable of delivering exceptional thermal comfort and structural resilience in a Category D cyclonic environment, while also meeting the cultural and community requirements of the brief. Conventional construction methods could not reliably meet all of those demands in this location.

SIPs Industries partnered with Pindan Contracting from design stage, providing complex engineering coordination to meet the cyclonic loading requirements. Wall and roof systems were manufactured off-site at the Bibra Lake facility using SIPs By Design and transported to South Hedland, enabling rapid installation across the 4,500m² footprint with a supply-and-install program.

The facility was fully erected in 45 days. During construction, Cyclone Rusty made landfall and the partially completed structure sustained no damage. The project was later recognised in Federal Parliament as one of the most successful federally funded initiatives supporting Indigenous health in Australia.
