Designed by Kieron Gait Architects, this award-winning 60m² rear extension transforms a traditional Queensland home by creating a striking double-height living space that connects the existing residence with the garden. A steeply raked roof, carefully framed views and a simple, honest material palette create a light-filled architectural addition that feels both contemporary and timeless.
Structural Insulated Panels were selected for the walls and roof to accelerate construction while allowing the exposed OSB finish to become an integral part of the design. By celebrating the natural character of the panels, the project eliminated the need for plasterboard and painting, demonstrating how SIPs can deliver both architectural expression and construction efficiency.
